The Mother of Boys

The Mother of Boys

Handprints on cupboards and shoes in the hall.
Toilet seat's up and there's mud on the wall.

Every sport channel to them will appeal,
And the front room doubles as a football field.

The shelves in the kitchen are continuously bare.
There's toys on the couch and jeans on the chair.

Wrestling and mud and cars and noise;
I'm sure you can guess, I'm the MOTHER of BOYS!

- Patsy Gaut

Here's to all those moms of all boys out there!

Allergies

face facecar

Sean's body reacted today from head to toe after eating 3 peaches. He's eaten plenty of peaches before, but not since summer. He even ate peach purée as a baby. Loves peaches. He's disappointed he wont be able to eat them anymore. We spent the afternoon at The Montreal Children's Hospital. He now has an epipen jr. (a few of them actually) and we will go for further testing with an allergist. I am so glad they don't take allergies lightly - we were seen right away and he was monitored for a few hours. The staff, as always, were fantastic. His bottom lip swelled up and so did around his eyes, besides the hives all over his body. At one point he said his eyes were burning before we left to the hospital. No more peaches for him. In the above pictures, on the left is when it first started and then how bad his face got in the car before we left to the hospital. I took pictures, (also of his body, which I won't show here) to show at the hospital, because I gave him a dose of Benadryl before we left the house. He wanted to rip off his skin scratching, so I gave him Benadryl. The hospital told me it was the right thing to do, that they are glad I did. Apparently allergies can come out at any point, even if it's something you've eaten before.

observation

He was a good patient up until the last hour. Every five minutes it was "Can we go home now?". I told him I didn't want to be there as much as he didn't, but we had to make sure he was okay. At least peaches aren't found in most things, and at least things aren't manufactured in a facility that "may contain peaches" like nuts are. I will read packages a lot more closely now. We got a script for 5 epipens, one for the house, one for my parents house, one for daycare, one for my purse and one for his school bag/hockey bag. That's all the places the doc today told us to put one. We watched a video on how to administer the epipen, but I am not a stranger to one, I had one for years when I had an allergy to peanuts, which I outgrew. I was told that we might have to wait up to 2 months to see an allergist at the Children's Hospital, but I will find out more when I call during business hours (tomorrow). Once we know exactly what he's allergic to for certain, I will get him a medical alert bracelet.

prescription

3 peaches off season = 3.81$
3 hours parking at the Montreal Children's Hospital = 9$
5 epipens to cover all bases= 438.75$
Insurance that covers epipens = Priceless.

Sean in Nets

This is a video of Sean in nets (white jersey is his team) at a tournament they played in last weekend. They had no goalie for that game, and asked the kids and Sean volunteered. At this level (MAHG 2) all the kids rotate getting a turn being goalie. (He loves all things about goalie). Anyhow, I didn't get to go to the tournament, as it was held at 8 am, and I had 2 kids still sleeping at that hour. In this video, from the 3 shots on Sean's net, he saves 2 of them! (The 2nd two). He played quite well in nets. (Not sure how I feel about him making this a regular thing - goalie equipment is quite expensive!) GO SEAN GO!

My baby is walking!

Quentin has been taking steps over the last few days. (After a few steps, he ends up on his bum). He needs a bit of practice, but he'll be walking (rather running) before I know it. While we're very excited for him to be walking already, it means a whole other level of baby proofing. It's also bitter sweet, because since he's my baby, I'm not ready for him to grow up this quickly.

Rapunzel

rapunzel closeuprapunzel - Copy Rapz

SPECS:

Pattern: Rapunzel Scarf by Kristen Hein Strohm (My Ravelry Link)
For: Me
Yarn : 2.15 skeins of Project B Worsted Superwash in Teal
Hook: 9.0 mm (M/N)
Size: One size
Timeline: December 30, 2011 - January 19, 2012
Modifications & Notes: I learned how to do foundation double crochet as well as learned how to do Long Spike Single Crochet/Spike Single Crochet with some help of some youtube videos and a dear friend N. I ended up doing 145 Fdc instead of what was called for in the pattern, to reach 70". The braiding was fun, but required 2 of us - one to hold (N) and then I was able to braid.
It's super warm, it was a fairly easy pattern to work up, and I LOVE the color.

iPhone Fun

Jan2012

Shot with my Hipstamatic for iPhone
Lens: John S
Flash: Off
Film: Ina's 1969

I’ve been loving the different camera apps on my iPhone lately. I’ve been playing around with Hipstamatic (which I think was on sale for .99¢ when I got it). Love the look you can give an image with the photo apps. This photo was taken 3 days ago, during bath time. The boys got a new hot wheel toy that can go in the bath, and they were playing with it, and I caught this image.

Sean’s Dance

Sean learned a new dance at school.
He says it's Armenian. I'm no expert. Anyone?
He's too cute in this video. I had to share!

:::::

Edited 01/18/12: I learned that it's a Lebanese dance, not Armenian. The kids have been learning about things that are Lebanese at daycare right now. This is Sean's version of a dance he learned.

You Know You Need A Haircut When…

mulletmackneedscutseanneedscutQduringcutduringcutmackduringcutseanQ1stcutnewcutmacknewcutsean

You know you need a hair cut when... your kids either look like Kramer from Seinfeld or start growing a mullet! I took the kids over winter break for much needed haircuts. It was Quentin's first official haircut (besides the time we "fixed" his hair because of the odd way it grew in after they shaved half his head at birth - due to an IV drip). He was soooo good, I was shocked. First boy of mine to not cry/or fuss at his first haircut. He let the lady cut without a single issue. He really is the best baby ever. And all three of my little men, are cute handsome with their new 'do

Project 365 + 1

365in2011

Last year I did Project 365, and stuck to it, for an entire year! I can't believe that I actually took a photo a day, for an entire year. Mind you, it's not that hard, being a photographer, and always having at least 2 cameras on me, at all times. (Always at least have my pocket camera, and my iphone camera on me).

366

And this year, I'm trying it again. Project 365+1. I've got Instagram (free) on my side, which is fun to use, and as well, Photo365 app too (.99¢). I'm ready to rock'n'roll for another full year of taking pictures every day. I was thinking of sitting out this year, as life got crazy busy, but I think I can manage a photo a day... to keep me on my toes. So pop on over to my 365+1 blog, and follow me there too! (Ps- If you click on the images, I have captions under each one!)
